シャトー・パルメ 2001

Maggie Beale, ChinaDaily. 2005年05月
smokey, still quite tannic, cassis (blackcurrant) and complex with good structure.
Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast Magazine. 2005年04月
As with so many other wines from the 2001 vintage, this Palmer is classic Margaux. It has delicacy and elegance, but it also packs power, concentration and dark, dry flavors. Intense and concentrated, the richness of the high proportion of Merlot in Palmer's blend shows through, while the Cabernet Sauvignon gives a fresh lift at the end.

Palmer comes through as the star of Margaux in 2001, the vibrant nature of its fruit set to evolve for years. All the elements are there in harmony: finely ripened tannins in layers of satin and silk, graceful fruit as transparent as a stained glass, letting light through to the Margaux expression within. Sleek and finely wrought, this is Palmer en pointe once again.
Ben Giliberti, Washington Post. 2004年10月
Like 1983 and 1989, 2001 is one of those years. The '01 Palmer is a glorious wine, full, generous, muscular on the palate, extravagantly spicy and complex, with the hallmark Palmer bouquet of violets, vanilla and black cherry.
Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar. 2004年04月
Dark red. Expressive aromas of redcurrant, raspberry, dark plum, tobacco, graphite, minerals and flowers. Very suave and smooth on entry, then a bit closed in the middle palate. But this very young, firm Palmer boasts harmonious acidity, very good cut and excellent balance. Finishes with rather tight tannins that will need six or seven years to soften.
Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate. 2004年04月
A virile, muscular effort for this estate, the 2001 Palmer (a blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot) exhibits a saturated purple color to the rim. Although closed and backward, it is surprisingly powerful, layered, and formidably endowed, revealing hints of charcoal, black fruits, earth, and underbrush. There is a lot going on in this offering, but it needs 5-7 years of cellaring to resolve its high tannin.
Abraham Horowitz, Wine News. 2004年04月
Medium ruby hue. Reserved scents of cedar and red plum with a touch of earth. Firm, ripe tannins and clean, forward flavors of black cherry and plum with secondary nuances of anise and vanilla. Hints of oak and raspberry in the velvety finish.
Clive Coates, The Vine. 2004年04月
Good colour. Elegant fruit on the nose. Quite rich and certainly complex. Still closed in. Medium-full body. Good grip. Ripe tannins and plenty of classy, complex fruit. But very good indeed rather than fine. Not enough energy and vigour.
James Suckling, Wine Spectator. 2004年03月
Extremely pretty, with flowers, berries, chocolate, spices. Full-bodied palate, with silky tannins. Long caressing finish.
Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar. 2003年06月
Medium red-ruby. Aromas of cherry, violet, shoe polish and spicy oak; a bit less black fruit in character than the 2002. Very sweet, silky and suave; this is more typical Palmer texture. Boysenberry, tobacco, bitter choclate and oak flavors enlivened by harmonious acidity. Finishes firmly tannic and long, with a strong mineral element.
James Suckling, Wine Spectator. 2003年03月
Extremely pretty, with flowers, berries, chocolate, spices. Full-bodied, with a solid core of fruit and ripe, silky tannins.
Decanter. 2002年05月
Really lovely nose of ripe cassis and red berry fruit, silky tannins, both fresh and dense, showing finesse and weight, very good.
Wine Magazine. 2002年05月
"Pure raspberry fruit runs through this, plus the hallmark Elavs plum sweetness which is noticeable on the finish. Good oak support and fine-grained tannins. The whole effect is well-balanced and harmonious. Lovely wine, restrained at the moment, but just waiting... " CM, MR

The summer of 2001 was not too dry, said estate manager Bertrand Bouteiller, and thus the grapes came in with a lower concentration of phenolic compounds than those of the previous year but higher than those of '99. Sugar levels, meanwhile, were about equal to those of '99 but higher than in 2000, with some merlot harvested at up to 14% potential alcohol. Color was easy to extract "due to the late cabernet sauvignon harvest". Unfortunately, I was not able to retaste the 2000, which showed spectacularly a year ago but was on its finings in late March. 2001 Palmer (from a yield of 44 hectoliters per hectare, vs 48 in 2000): Bright medium ruby. Vibrant aromas of black cherry, violet, licorice and mint. Sweet and minerally in the mouth, with lovely verve and lift and sharply delineated black fruit, spice and mint flavors. Finishes with complex notes of mocha, earth and Cuban tobacco but limited sweetness, with the firm tannins coming across as just short of dry.
James Suckling, Wine Spectator.com. 2002年03月
Raspberries and cherries, with chocolate and currants. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a fresh and long finish. Lovely and rich. Tightly knit.
